I am new to python, and am finding that my first attempt to connect via ODBC always fails with the error you see below, however the 2nd attempt, immediately afterwards, always succeeds, and does so pretty quickly.  Any thoughts on why this might be?

i am using Terdata version 13.10 and R Studio 3.2.3 (32-bit). I am trying to establish connection between both using following code. I also have all required JDBC drivers installed on system.

I am encountering issues when I try to submit queries while doing "CREATE VOLATILE TABLE" using the Teradata JDBC driver class. I have tried the solution described within:
http://forums.teradata.com/forum/database/jdbc-unable-to-create-a-volatile-table-using-a-java-client
but adding a commit statement didn't work for me.

After installing ODBC driver 15.10 (tried 15.00 too) on a MAC, I tried to connect to a Teradata server and got the following error.
u'[28000] [Teradata][ODBC Teradata Driver][Teradata Database] The UserId, Password or Account is invalid. '

As the title says, the driver fails connecting on a RHEL 5-64bit system in a custom directory, running tdxodbc64, and gives the above error, like so:
