Could not run startup.bat

I am freshly installing teradata View point on my system. I have followed the instructions in the instruction manual. Once I ran the setup.bat successfully, I am not able to startup the Teradata View point. I Ran the startup.bat batch file. It shows me a Tomcat window , there is some stuff going on in the screen and it shows me message 'Server startup in 13350 ms' and remains as is. I was never able to startup the viewpoint.Does anybody have any idea about this? Am I missing any steps in installation process?

Leo,When you see the "server startup in X ms", it usually means that the server has started up successfully. Are there an exception stacktraces in the console output? In fact, can you grab the contents of the console window (all the way back to the start of the command), paste it into a text file, and post to this forum?- Neil O'Toolemoderator

From the output of your logfile, it looks like there's a problem with the classpath; that is, Tomcat can't find the correct class to load for the JDBC driver. Two issues here:1. Strongly recommend that you install the PDK in a location without spaces in the path. E.g. "C:\dev\tdpdk-13.00.00.01\"2. Have you set the %CATALINA_HOME% environment variable?? This should point to the location you've installed viewpoint, e.g. "C:\dev\tdpdk-13.00.00.01\viewpoint-portal"3. Sometimes clashes can occur if you've got lots of other stuff on your system classpath. Essentially your system classpath (that is, the value of the environment variable %CLASSPATH%) should be empty or almost empty if you're doing development work. What is the content of %CLASSPATH% on your system?

I suspect the problem is due to classpath only.I have taken care to install the TDK pack. The following is my system class path.;C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07\lib\ext\QTJava.zipdo you have any recommendation to this?As explained in the instructions manual I have set the CATALINA_HOME path correctly.I just verified that.

Well, I definitely see one problem. Currently Viewpoint is only supported under JDK 1.5.x, so you'll need to switch to that JDK, and then report back :-)

When you type "java -version" from the command line, which version do you get?

hmmmm! another glitch in the adventure neil. I tried to create a sample portlet as discussed in the manual..however, the portel shows me a page which says the application server is running but does not prompt me to enter admin password or any other options. The only thing I see is a page full of details from Sun notifying me that app server is running...Here is what I seeYour Application Server is now runningTo replace this page, overwrite the file index.html in the document root folder of this domain's default virtual server. The document root folder of the domain domain1 is located at install-dir /domains/domain1/docroot, where install-dir is the Application Server installation directory.any ideas on how to proceed further with this

Hmmmn, that's very strange indeed.... that doesn't look like a standard Tomcat error message? Are you trying to deploy Viewpoint into some other servlet container / app server? (Note that Viewpoint only runs on the Tomcat server included with the PDK download).

I'm having a similar problem with the startup.bat file. When I try to run it I get this message on my cmd window. C:\tdpdk-13.00.00.01\viewpoint-portal\bin>startup.batUsing CATALINA_BASE: C:\tdpdk-13.00.00.01\viewpoint-portal\Using CATALINA_HOME: C:\tdpdk-13.00.00.01\viewpoint-portal\Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: C:\tdpdk-13.00.00.01\viewpoint-portal\\tempUsing JRE_HOME: C:\Java\jre1.5.0_19\Using JAVA_OPTS -Ddb=postgresql -Xms256m -Xmx256m -XX:MaxPermSize=128M -Dfile.encoding=UTF8 -Djava.security.auth.login.config=C:\tdpdk-13.00.00.01\viewpoint-portal\\conf\jaas.config -Djava.util.logging.manager=org.apache.juli.ClassLoaderLogManager -Djava.util.logging.config.file="C:\tdpdk-13.00.00.01\viewpoint-portal\\conf\logging.properties"I also checked the version of JAVA im running and it says 1.4.2_04 even though I uninstalled the previous versions and I have 1.5.0_19 on my computer. How do I update JAVA correctly and get startup.bat file to work?

That is a normal startup message. Check the contents of PDK_FOLDER/viewpoint-portal/logs/catalina.out where log messages will be output after startup, to see if there are any errors.

Hello,
I'm having a similar problem with the startup.bat file. Here is the outupt from cmd-window (it is correct I think):

C:\tdpdk-13.02.00.03\viewpoint-portal\bin>startup.bat
Using CATALINA_BASE: C:\tdpdk-13.02.00.03\viewpoint-portal
Using CATALINA_HOME: C:\tdpdk-13.02.00.03\viewpoint-portal
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: C:\tdpdk-13.02.00.03\viewpoint-portal\temp
Using JRE_HOME: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_20
C:\tdpdk-13.02.00.03\viewpoint-portal\bin>

But the Tomcat window is frozen after a lot of messages there:

INFO 10 IV 2010 12:38:39,640 [main] [org.apache.catalina.startup.Catalina.start (560)]
Server startup in 35531 ms

Any recommendation would be appreciated...

OK...  Need Help.  Can't seem to get the Portal up.  I suspect that it's a pathing problem w/ my CLASSPATH.   Tomcat seems to be up but the jsp or servelet isn't found.  Here is the info from the startup.bat.   Setup.bat indicates all is good.

Reading through this I discovered I had to uninstall Java 7 and install Java 1.5 in order for tomcat to work with viewpoint. I uninstalled 7 and reinstalled 5, and now my Tomcat window pops up after I hit startup.bat, and instantly closes. Before it would at least say the server startup was successful at xxx ms. Anybody have a solution? Thanks!
