Query Needed Topic by veerabomma99 16 Dec 2009

Sample Input :child_node_ID IDcode parent_node_ID1 C50881-002 12 C50881-006 23 C50881-007 34 C50881-006 25 C50881-007 36 C97663-001 67 C97663-002 68 C97663-003 89 C97663-002 710 C97673-002 9I have data coming in format shown above, i need output as shown below. The output required is the lvl cout - the calculation for lvl_cnt is - Suppose we have given input child_node_ID=10 then i need to see corresponding parent_node_id, here it is 9...Now i need to go to child_node_ID = 9 and check it parent_node_id, which is 7 ..Now i need to go to child_node_ID = 7 and check it parent_node_id, which is 6 ..Now i need to go to child_node_ID = 6 and check it parent_node_id, which is 6 .. Here child_node_ID = parent_node_id...Hence the lvl_cnt =3 as we have passed through 3 levels to make them equal.Suppose i consider child_node_ID = 1, its parent_node_id =1...hence lvl_cnt =0 .Output :child_node_ID IDcode parent_node_ID lvl_cnt1 C50881-002 1 02 C50881-006 2 03 C50881-007 3 04 C50881-006 2 15 C50881-007 3 16 C97663-001 6 07 C97663-002 6 18 C97663-003 8 09 C97663-002 7 210 C97673-002 9 3Mostly this can we solved by recursive query or while loop in teradata.Can anyone help me in solving this issue.Regards,Prashanth Veerabomma.

Stored Procedure or Sql Topic by coolguy 26 Nov 2009

I have one table in Teradata and I need to process all records from this table and create a new table. The business requirement is such that I need to sort the records based on two columns(for the ease of explanation, consider this as key) and for the same key combination I need to pick few columns from first record, few columns from the last record and and also aggregrate few columns from first to last record (aggregate in between records) and then write this as a single record in output file. This is best illustrated with the help of an example Card Origin Destination Origin Destination AmountNumber Time Time ID IDABC Time1 Time2 X12 Y78 10ABC Time3 Time4 X34 Y65 20ABC Time5 Time6 X56 Y98 30 DEF Time1 Time2 D12 E45 50DEF Time3 Time4 D34 E78 20GHI Time1 Time2 D45 E78 10GHI Time3 Time4 X12 E34 30GHI Time5 Time6 X34 E12 40GHI Time7 Time8 X56 E45 50 Business Rule :- Difference between Time2 and Time3 should be less than 30 minutes and Difference between Time1 and Time6 should be less than 3 hours The output table should have below details For Card ABC, Origin Time.Origin ID of First record is picked, Destination time, Destination ID of last record is picked and Amount field is aggregatedCard Origin Destination Origin Destination AmountNumber Time Time ID ID ABC Time1 Time6 X12 Y98 60DEF Time1 Time4 D12 E78 70GHI Time1 Time8 D45 E45 130I am planning to write a stored procedure, but since Stored procedure will be sequential read and single record processing at a time, it will be very time consuming and would also not use the teradata parallelism. Can this be done in a normal sql query or is there any better way of doing this other than writing a stored procedure?

Performance improvement following disk array controller replacement? Topic by SimonWheeles 24 Nov 2009

An anomalous condition due to conflicting configuration information in disk array DAMC005-3-6 led to an OFFLINE volume and thus a Fatal AMP vproc. Following replacement of the hardware a notable performance improvement was realised, compared to the previous three months. Could this be coincidence or could there have been a gradual degradation to the ultimate failure?

Because the "where" is more upper than the first option? Thanks!

E BOOK ON DATA WAREHOUSING Topic by Aaron01 06 Nov 2009

Hi there , Written in a tutorial style, this book gives a step-by-step development of the defining principles of OLAP analysis through the lens of the programming language at the heart of Oracle's OLAP option. This book will show you ways to leverage the value of your data warehouse through refining the information it contains to create cogent, actionable measures of business performance. The content is informative and practical, reflecting over 15 years of hands-on experience developing multidimensional analytic applications for over a dozen companies. Whether you are new to business intelligence or a seasoned practitioner, whether you are using Oracle OLAP now or another toolset, The Multi-dimensional Data ModelingToolkit will have something significant to offer you.The content of the book is based on the Oracle 10g database, however, most of the programming statements shown will work with other editions of the database, such as Oracle 9i and 11g, and even earlier editions of the technology found in stand-alone products such as the Express database, Oracle Financial Analyzer, and Oracle Sales Analyzer. So if you are developing business intelligence systems in Oracle or porting from one of these platforms this book gives you helpful information you will use to get the job done. The book can be easily downloaded by visiting http://www.amazon.com/Multidimensional-Data-Modeling-Toolkit-Intelligence/dp/0981775306
