Setup host server for Studio Express

Hi All,
I installed Studio express on my personal machine for practice purpose. When I try to create a new data source, it asks the server host name. I was wondering if I can give my machine's IP address as the server address.
And what I mean to ask is does the teradata database get installed when I install studio express?
Thanks,
Aarsh

Aarsh, No. but just the opposite. Teradata Express is a VM that contains a Teradata Database. It also contains Teradata Studio Express inside the VM, for accessing the Teradata Database.

Aarsh, Here is the download page for Terdata Express for VMWare. It should provide you with the information you need (http://downloads.teradata.com/download/database/teradata-express/vmware)

Jyothsna, You will need to execute the CREATE DATABASE statement in the SQL Editor.
1. Create a new Connection Profile and connect to your Teradata Database.
2. In the Data Source Explorer, select the Teradata Database connection and in the DSE toolbar, choose Open SQL Editor option. This will open a SQL Editor window with your Teradata Database connection.
3. In the SQL Editor, enter your CREATE DATABASE command and right click and Execute All.

Viktor, Make sure you are viewing the latest articles with the latest version of Studio Express. In the latest version, 15.00, the Data Source Explorer will show the list of Databases and Users. The term Schema was used in older versions and synonymous with Database.

You will need to ensure the RDMS you wish to connect to is able to be reached by your system.
If you're using a VM, then the ip address of the VM needs to be used (ifconfig on the client VM will do the trick) if the VM is on another server, then you may neeed to create a tunnel to that VM
ssh -fNL 1025:localIPaddressTD:1025 user@server
and naturally make sure that the VM and RDMS is running when you setup the tunnel.

Alekhya: Addendum the tunnel is only required if you need to attache to a remote machine that has a VM within it.

Jyothsna, Are you using Terminal Server software shared user environment? Teradata Studio has been certified in Citrix environment.
Otherwise, on a standard desktop system, Teradta Studio can be used by multiple users but only one instance can be running at one time. Each user will have their own workspace.

So you already had the Teradata Express VM (which includes Teradata Studio Express) and you have now installed Teradata Studio on your system and want to connect it to the VM?
Check the Teradata Express documentation here on developer exchange and the posts in the Cloud Computing forum.
