Solutions Architect

The Cobalt Talon solution enables healthcare payers with capabilities such as cost and quality of care analytics, predictive risk management, “propensity to buy” models, provider performance monitoring and much more. This is done through our proprietary, industry-specific, data analytics platform Cobalt Talon builds, hosts and supports for our clients. Users can on access the platform on demand via web top, iPad or iPhone. 

The Solutions Architect plays a lead role in the design and oversight of a multi-client, data warehouse product offered as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution. The responsibilities include oversight of Teradata RDBMS software and utilities, quality assurance, and optimal configuration and integration w/backup, storage and recovery. Acting as the System DBA, the Solution Architect will lead and oversee an Application DBA, QA Analyst and Developer to administer, maintain, control and expand the Cobalt Talon Product Suite.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Teradata database in Development / QA / Production environments including installation, configuration, backup, recovery, upgrades, schema changes, etc.
  • Lead the development of logical modeling/architecture design to facilitate additional subject area expansion or schema changes required for new clients (onboarding)
  • In depth understanding of relational and dimensional modeling techniques for Teradata Warehouse environment. Lead conversion of Logical Data Models into implementable Physical Data Models with Teradata design standards understanding the emphasis on ETL and BI performance
  • Candidate must possess very strong SQL Programming skills to function as a Teradata Expert for all teams in setting up best practices and provide recommendations and solutions to complex ETL and BI requirements
  • Candidate must possess hands on experience in Teradata Utilities- BTEQ, FastLoad, FastExport, TPUMP and TPT
  • Candidate must have necessary skills to analyze complex mixed workloads for ETL and BI, setting up workload rules, throttles using Teradata View Point for managing the system wide resources for a shared warehouse environment
  • The Solutions Architect will direct staff to administer, maintain, and control the data warehouse including the database, software, and utilities, integrate monitoring, auditing, and alert systems for databases with existing monitoring infrastructure.
  • Candidate must have thorough understanding of ROLEs and PROFILEs in formulating strategy for complex Teradata Warehouse
  • Candidate must have hands on experience in integration of Teradata Warehouse with BI platforms, preferably with MicroStrategy
  • Lead database performance health monitoring and diagnostics.
  • Partner with the System Engineering and Tech Operations in design, implementation, maintenance and automation of appropriate backup and recovery architecture.
  • Occasional off-shift availability to resolve production issues or assist in production deployments. 
  • Should be self-starter to identify and implement new enhancements in the Teradata Warehouse environment to keep up with the advancements in DW industry
  • Work closely with other members of the Operations Team, mentor others in areas of expertise, and be an active contributing member of the company as a whole



  • BA/BS or equivalent degree in computer science or related area of study
  • 5-7 years of experience as Solutions Architect or Teradata System DBA
  • 3-5 years of experience with Data Modeling, preferably ER Studio
  • Experienced Teradata system database engineer with minimum 7 years of experience supporting Teradata, including the latest versions 12.0 and 13.0
  • Must be proficient with Teradata Tools & Utilities e.g. SQL Assistant, TD Administrator, BTEQ, Fastload, TPT and Viewpoint.
  • Experience with BAR tools such as TaraGUI, NetBackup, and NetVault.
  • Experience in Teradata Data Warehouse architecture along with some knowledge of end-to-end application for MicroStrategy.
  • Experience with Teradata SQL performance tuning and optimization

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Healthcare Industry experience preferred
  • 5-10% domestic travel
