in spool or perm space, or in memory?

In perm space -> dbc.transientjournalBut that special table can grow over dbc's perm limit until the whole system runs out of perm space.Dieter

The Filer utility has commands for inspecting the Transient Journal.  It is not acually a table.  It is a special file system object.

the dbc.transientjournal is very large while importing the data via bteq,
then i tried to delete it by SQL: modify database dbc as drop default journal table;
but it was failed.
so any suggestion? thanks so much.

MODIFY DATABASE DROP DEFAULT JOURNAL is not related to the Transient Journal, this is for Permanent Journals only.
Your BTEQ job probably logged on using an ANSI session, so all INSERTs are part of a single transaction.
Change to Teradata mode or for a large number of rows better use a load utility.

You do not need to delete it. Teradata will clean it out for you automatically once you complete your transaction.
