Returning Values from Procedures

Hi,

I am new to Teradata.
I want to make a procedure in Teradata wich will do the follwing job:

1.Read an integer from a table in Teradata.(SELECT)
2.Increment a constant value to it.
3.Append the value in the same Table.(INSERT)
4.Return that value.

Is it possible to return values using Stored Procedures in Teradata?
I was doing this job using a shell script function earlier. But now wanted to do this using Teradata due to some issues.

Please suggest if there is any better way to do this job in Teradata.

Thanks and Regards,
Pratyush
