Greatest() function error in TD15

Greetings,

First time poster; database USER, not administrator/programmer, so I am not nearly as much of an expert as the rest of you.  However, I need help desperately.
I have Teradata 15, and was hoping to execute the greatest() function to return the maximum value across multiple columns.  Unfortunately, even when I enter something simple like...
select greatest(1,2)
...I get the error "SELECT Failed.  [3706] Syntax error: expected something between '(' and the integer '1'."

I have done a LOT of searching online and cannot find a solution to this problem.  Some of the information points to something called a "Database Initialization Program (DIP)", but I don't know what that is.  The Teradata guide says that I can run it through the "Database Window", but that was not included in my installation and cannot find the place to download it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom
