Both are for security. Query Banding allows to pass parameters into sql script.

eg:

SET QUERY_BAND='MSTRReportDate=20100110>=20091231;Projektf=4<56;'

     FOR SESSION;

SET QUERY_BAND = 'ClientUser=i12345;' FOR SESSION ;

SEL GetQueryBandValue(2,'ClientUser');

SET QUERY_BAND = 'Document=XY1234;Universe=East;' FOR TRANSACTION;

There are some ETL tools which allow the settings for value pairs and it is easy for DBAs to track queries.

Heard that getQueryBandValue  increases CPU usage if for example it is used in the where clause.

Is it possible to get a comparison sheet on Query Banding based Logon vs. Direct Logon?, can you please advise?

Thanks,
Sri.

Query Banding in general just allows the client to pass additional information about the session to the database, which can be used for many purposes. Are you asking about the reserved ProxyUser query band and Trusted Sessions?

Thank you Raj...

Hi Fred,
I've some idea on Query Banding functionality, but I would like to know some of the advantages and disadvantages of using Direct User Logon compare to Query Banding.
Thanks,
Sri.
