When Teradata released its new temporal capabilities in 2010, it caused us all to start to thinking differently about the element of time in the Data Warehouse by providing powerful tools for managing and navigating temporal & bitemporal data structures. With the release of Teradata R14.10, we will be challenged still further.

The session provides a deep dive into Teradata’s latest DBMS release. It focuses on the following temporal enhancements and best practices for implementation of:

•Derived or Pseudo Periods
•Join Elimination for SEQUENCED Views
•Enhanced Normalize function
•SEQUENCED VALIDTIME SELECT Support for Aggregate Functions
•Sequenced View Support for Teradata ILDMs
•Temporal Table Timestamps Granularity Settings

We use a case study approach to highlight these features to solve real world problems. Further, we discuss implications for loading & accessing data as well as the impact on resource consumption & database administration.
