Teradata’s latest and greatest Eclipse offering has been released and is available in the Teradata Developer Exchange download section (Teradata Plug-in for Eclipse) . The 14.01.00 release builds on the 14.00.00 offering by boasting increased functionality.

What's New:

  • Administer Profiles

A new Administer Profiles dialog has been added to allow users to create and modify database Profiles. The dialog will present the general space information, password information, and the associated users in order to create or modify the profile. Profiles are also listed in the Teradata View when selecting the Database node in the Data Source Explorer.

  • Administer Roles

A new Administer Roles dialog has been added to allow users to create and modify database roles. The dialog will present the list of users and roles associated with the role in order to create or modify the role. Roles are also listed in the Teradata View when selecting the Database node in the Data Source Explorer.

  • Create User Defined Type Dialogs

New Create User Defined Type dialogs have been added to allow users to create Structured, Distinct, and Array User Defined Types for the database. Three separate dialogs are provided depending on the type of the UDT. The Create Distinct UDT dialog will create a user defined type that references a distinct, known database type. The Create Structured UDT dialog will create a structured user defined type that contains ‘C’ code for methods and functions. The Create Array UDT will create an array user defined that references a known database type with given bounds for the array. The Create Structured and Distinct UDT dialogs will provide an editable template to help the user define the UDT. A SQL Preview tab will display the SQL statement that was generated to create the UDT, allowing the user to save the SQL statement to a file, run the SQL statement, creating the UDT in the database, or show the SQL in a SQL Editor tab.


Note: All UDTs are created in the SYSUDTLIB database.

  • Find Object/Find Next Object/Advanced Find Dialog

A new Find option has been added to the Teradata Menu. The Find operation will open a dialog for you to enter the search value and select a database object type. It will start the search relative to the selected object in the DSE. For example, if you have selected a connection profile node, the find operation will search all of the schemas on that Teradata server. If you have selected a specific schema (or database), the Find operation will search only that schema. Upon locating the object, the Find will select the object in the DSE. If the Teradata View is opened and in focus, the object will be opened in the Teradata View.


A Find Next option has been added to that will find the next object in the DSE tree that matched the previously entered search value and object type. Find Next can be invoked by clicking the F3 shortcut key.

Also provided is an Advanced Find dialog that allows you to choose more detailed find options and presents the list of all objects that match the search value. The Find dialog contains an Advanced Find button to invoke the Advanced Find dialog. The dialog allows the user to select the specific connection profiles or schemas to search, the type of objects for which to search, and a limit on the number of objects found. The search result list is presented in the Teradata View.

  • Function Overloading for User Defined Funtions

Function name overloading has not been supported in previous versions due to a bug in the Eclipse base. The bug has been fixed and Teradata has added functionality to support the function name overloading capability. Users can overload names in the Create User Defined Function dialog.

  • Grant/Revoke Logon Rights, Connect Through Rights, Column Level Rights, and System Rights

New dialogs have been added to allow the user to manage the rights on database objects.

  • Clone User Dialog

A new dialog is provided to Clone Users. This dialog allows the user to clone a current database user, creating a new database user with a new password and the same attributes as the original database user.

  • Modify User Dialog

A new dialog is provided to Modify Users. Users can modify the attributes of a database user, such as the associated profile, default role, password, account, fallback, journal information, time zone, date format, default character set, and space information.

  • Modify Comments

A new Modify Comments action is provided in the Teradata View toolbar to allow you to easily modify comments for the following objects: Schemas, Tables, Stored Procedures, Macros, Views, Hash Indexes, Join Indexes, User Defined Functions, and User Defined Types.

  • Teradata View: Filter List Option

A Filter option has also been added to the lists that are displayed in the Teradata View for Schemas, Tables, Macros, Stored Procedures, Indexes, User Defined Functions, User Defined Types, and Views. The user can filter the lists by a starting value, ending value, or containing value.

  • Teradata View: Additional Tab Information

Additional information has been added to the Teradata View for Schemas and Tables. The Schemas view will now include creator name, access count, last access date, and ‘rights held by’ information. The Tables view will now include creator name, access count, last access date, queue table, fallback indicator, version, temporary, no primary index indicator, index number, references and users of, and statistics. Teradata IDE users can set a preference to disable these tabs if desired. Refer to the Windows>Preferences>Teradata Preference Page.

We have not yet certified with the Juno release of Eclipse.

Are you trying to run Teradata Plug-in for Eclipse and Teradata Studio Express, sharing the workspace location (i.e. C:\Users\\workspace)? You can not share workspace locations between products. You will need to create a separate workspace for, say Studio Express, and launch Studio Express with the -data option. (Refer to Chapter 3 of the Release Definition). You should also delete the current workspace, as it may be corrupt, and restart Teradata Plugin for Eclipse.

I just installed Eclipse, but when i try to install the Teradata 14.1 Plugin i get the following error.

Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.
Software being installed: Teradata DTP Support Feature 14.1.0.201206111039 (com.teradata.datatools.dtpsupportFeature.feature.group 14.1.0.201206111039)

@Tuen, Whether you are installing from the Update site or locally unzipped update, make sure you have selected (checked) all of the feature plugins. At a minimum you will need: Teradata Basic Functionality, Teradata DTP Enhancements, Teradata DTP Refactor, Teradata DTP Support and Teradata Plug-in for Eclipse.

Francine, i did have them all checked. I checked the top-level one which checked all the ones underneath it. I tried both the local as well as plugging in the URL to download from the web.

Here is what I have in the "Install New Software" window.
Work with: Teradata Update Site - http://downloads.teradata.com/download/cdn/tools/tdide/tdide-14.01.00.00/update/site.xml

this brings up in the window below:
Teradata Plug-in for Eclipse with the following listed under it in the expanded tree.
Teradata Basic Functionality Feature 14.1.0.201206111039
Teradata DTP Enhancements Feature 14.1.0.201206111039
Teradata DTP Refactor Feature 14.1.0.201206111039
Teradata DTP Support Feature 14.1.0.201206111039

I clicked the "Select All" button and then make sure the only two items below that that are checked are "Show only the latest versions of available software" and "Group Items by category"

when i click next this is when it gives me the error that the install cannot be completed. This is a fresh install of Eclipse and the plug-in.

It looks like there are Eclipse required packages missing. We require:

Eclipse IDE for Java JEE Developers (Indigo 3.7.2 SR2)
- This includes Eclipse 3.7.2, DTP 1.9.2, EMF 2.7.2, GEF 3.7.2, and WTP 3.3.2

OR Eclipse IDE for Java JEE Developers (Helios 3.6.2 SR2)
- This includes Eclipse 3.6.2, DTP 1.8.2, EMF 2.6.1, GEF 3.6.2, and WTP 3.2.3 (You must upgrade DTP to version 1.9.2.)
Please make sure you have the required version of Eclipse and its packages.

Yes, the version of eclipse provided by our internal software group is not the same version as required by Teradata. I had to go download version above.

Taken from John's response: "The Teradata Java Wizards for the Teradata IDE Plug-in for Eclipse does not support batch insert for MyBatis and Spring. You can do this with Teradata but there are no code generation tools for this type of application."

Not sure what this is in reference to, but the workspace is a folder. Yes, try to delete the workspace folder.

Even though i was receiving eclipse errors when i try to launch TD studio express, it appears that out-of-the-box of this tool install is leaving a windows folder in protected mode. I've changed the following folder...
C:\Program Files\Teradata\Client\15.00\Teradata Studio Express nt-x8664
to have full permission and was able to launch teradata studion without problems.

Alex, Did you try launching Studio Express from the install directory or from the desktop shortcut? When launching Studio Express, it will try to create a workspace directory. If you launch from the install location, i.e. double clicking the TeradataStudioExpress.exe, it tries to create the workspace at that location. If you launch from the shortcut, it will create the workspace under your <USER> directory. Typically for Windows 7, for example, it is C:\Users\<your login user>\workspace. This is what you want to do. If you must launch from the install location, use the -data option to specify a location for the workspace.

That could be the problem then. My installation didn't create a desktop shortcut even though i've checked that option to create one. Hence i've launched it from the install location.

Alex, I'm not sure why the desktop shortcut was not created? You can create your own shortcut on the desktop by right clicking on the TeradataStudioExpress.exe and choose  'Create shortcut'. Answer 'yes' to put it on the desktop. Then open the properties for the shortcut (select and right click) and change the 'Start in' field to: %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%. This will allow you to launch and cause the workspace to be created in the your user home area.
