Teradata Studio Express, Teradata Studio, and Teradata Plug-in for Eclipse 15.12 are now available for download. The Studio family of products provide client based access to Teradata, Aster, and Hadoop.

Teradata Studio Express is an information discovery tool for retrieving and displaying data from your Teradata Database systems. Teradata Studio, in addition to the functionality of Studio Express, includes administration features for creating and administering database objects. They are both built on top of the Eclipse Rich Client Platform (RCP) which allows them to benefit from the many high quality Eclipse features available while focusing on value-add for the Teradata Database, Aster Database, and Hadoop platforms. Studio Express and Studio can be run on multiple operating system platforms, such as Windows, Linux, and Mac OSX.

Teradata Plug-in for Eclipse provides an Eclipse plug-in that includes the same functionality as Teradata Studio along with Dialogs and Wizards to help build Java Web Services, Java Stored Procedures, and Java User-defined Functions. Teradata Plug-in for Eclipse is supported on both Windows and Mac OSX platforms.

What's new in 15.12:

  • New Hadoop Connection Profile Wizard

Provides a better user interface for managing Hadoop connections. Combines Hortonworks, Cloudera, and General Hadoop connection into a single wizard. Also added SSL option for Knox and LDAP security option for Hadoop JDBC connections.

  • Hadoop Presto Support

Provides support for Presto JDBC with Hortonworks and Cloudera Hadoop connections. Studio supports Presto version 141t.

  • Hadoop Smart Load from External Files

Provides Smart Load support to load data into a Hadoop table.  This feature uses WebHDFS to copy the file from the client system to the Hadoop system. Then uses JDBC to CREATE the table and LOAD the file into the Hadoop Database table. Only .txt, .csv. and .tsv file formats are supported. Note: You must check the box when creating your Hadoop Connection for Smart Loader (File Import/Export in Hadoop).

  • Hadoop Data Load and Export

Provides support for data load and export to and from Hadoop tables. The Hadoop Data Load feature uses WebHDFS to copy the file from the client system to the Hadoop system. Then uses JDBC to LOAD the file into the Hadoop Database table. Only .txt, .csv, and .tsv file formats are supported. Note: You must check the box when creating your Hadoop Connection for Smart Loader (File Import/Export in Hadoop). The Hadoop Data Export feature executes a SELECT statement to pull the data from the Hadoop system and store in the destination file on the client system.

  • User Interface Enhancements

Provides additional UI enhancements that include:

  • Color code EXPLAIN results and support for multiple EXPLAIN statements
  • Separate Query Band for Fast Load/Export
  • Row Count for Teradata Result Sets
  • Result Set Viewer provide whole column selection
  • Preference for Default JDBC Properties

Provides a preference to set the default JDBC properties used when creating new connection profiles. The current default JDBC properties include: CHARSET=UTF8 and TMODE=ANSI. The user can change the default properties using the Connection Options preference page. Any new connection profiles will use the new default JDBC properties. These properties can also be set at install time using the Preferences configuration file.

  • Export Option to include SQL Statement and Result Status

Provides an option to include the executed SQL statment and the result status in the exported file. This option can be set in the Export Preferences page.

  • Navigator Set Root (Studio Only)

Provides the same Set Root capability in the Studio Navigator View as provided by the Data Source Explorer. This allows the user to change the root of the Databases and Users hierarchical tree display. In the Navigator, right click on the Databases category and choose the Set Root menu option.

What's new in Teradata Studio Express only:

  • Open Property Form

The Object View has been removed from Studio Express. Instead, users can display detailed information about database objects by using the Open in Property Form option. Select the object in the Data Source Explorer, then right click and choose the Open in Property Form menu action. This will display the object details in a form-based user interface. Within the form press the vertical tabs to display the detailed information for the database object.
