Teradata Studio Express provides an information discovery tool that retrieves data from  Aster, Teradata, and Hadoop Database systems and allows the data to be manipulated and stored on the desktop. It is built on the Eclipse Rich Client Platform (RCP). For more information on Teradata Studio Express, refer to the article Teradata Studio Express.

Teradata Studio is an administration toolkit that helps users to create and administer database objects. It also provides a SQL Editor and Result Set Viewer for retrieving and displaying data fron your Teradata Database systems (Teradata, Aster, and Hadoop). The Teradata Profiler Plug-in is based on the Eclipse plug-in framework and the Teradata Plug-in for Eclipse and Teradata Studio Data Source Explorer (DSE). Teradata Profiler Plug-in enables the user to Profile Teradata and Aster tables/columns via the DSE as well as create projects containing analyses. The descriptive statistics available with the Teradata Profiler Plug-in provide a variety of functions to statistically analyze and explore data tables in a Teradata or Aster database. This is a complete version of the Teradata Profiler for Eclipse, without an evaluation time limit, however, it is limited in use to up to 40 GB of "connected" data. (Note that the validation of the 40 GB limit for the Express Edition requires SELECT access to the dbc.allspace view in Teradata or EXECUTE permission on the nc_relationstats SQL-MR function in Aster for the user.)

The Windows installation of Studio and Studio Express supports preconfigured preferences that can be provided during the installation process. The feature focuses on those preferences that pertain to database interactions.

This article will introduce you to the new user experience provided by Teradata Studio's Administration Perspective; an improved interface for creating and modifying database objects.

my command line "java -version" returns a found java jre:
"java version "1.8.0_66"

version of the java jre 8.66 (64 bit) , java jdk 8.66 (64 bit).

the Add/remove programs show them been installed.
What could be wrong

Is there any difference in basic functionality or performance between:
- right-clicking on a table to use the data import widget
and
-using ncluster_loader from the command line
?

Hi,
I have just upgraded from Studio 15.00 to 15.10.00.03 and now the Data Transfer Wizard no longer seems to work.
The dialogue appears, details the correct source and destination tables and columns, but then when I hit 'Finish', nothing appears in the Transfer Progress View, or the Transfer History View.

Good Morning,
I am using Teradata Studio 15.10.00.01, on Win 7, with the IBM JDBC drivers.
I can create a connection to our DB2 z/os database, and see all our schemas and tables.  I cam right click a table and sample the data. I can even see the SQL that the sample data produces.
However

Teradata Studio is an administrative tool to help Teradata customers administer their Teradata and Aster Database systems.

I'm running the latest  TeradataStudio__mac_x86.15.10.00.01 on OSX 10.10 and when pulling resusage from customer site I get the data back in the results window, but then if I want to export it to disk I click on this and get the black/white ball and studio goes off into a spin for about 5 muntes then eventually comes back with nothing.

Teradata Studio 15.10 is now available for download. Teradata Studio is an administration tool for creating and administering database objects. It can be run on multiple operating system platforms, such as Windows, Linux, and Mac OSX.

Installed TD Studio 15.10 and am trying to create a new Connection Profile.  I select Teradata database and then move tto the "Specify a Driver and Connection Details" page, but it's blank.  I unfortunately can't attach a screenshot, but the dialog box is just completely empty so I can't specify a driver or any connection details.

If I run an explain, and then try to copy the results after switching it to text mode, the common keystroke of CTRL-C doesn't work. in order to copy in this mode it appears that  after selecting all the text you have to right click in the window and then select copy from the menu.

I've been having a problem when working with my large SQL files in Teradata Studio. It seems that when the file contains a lot of text, especially when it flows off the screen to the right, the cursor is very slow to react and if you hold the cursor down to move several characters it will jump a few or many characters.

I double clicked on the right column header separator for the Results column in the Teradata SQL History - SQL Summary group and now it is off the screen and I cannot resize it back down. The main window that Studio runs in appears to be limited in its ability to expand the width of the main window. Help!

The Unified Data Architecture enables Teradata, Aster and Hadoop to deliver unparalleled value.

Hi, I am running Windows 7 and I just upgraded from Teradata Studio 14.02 to TeradataStudio__win64_x86.15.00.01.00.  Prior to the Studio upgrade install I installed jre-7u65-windows-i586.  I also have jre-7u65-windows-x64 installed.  Studio appears to launch fine, however when I try to filter databases (we have hundreds) I right click on the database filt

Hello
I copied some smaller tables from production to test environment. The problem is the usage of over 60 session for this job, which is blocking other production jobs.
Is there a way to limit the number of sessions for data transfer?
regards
Markus

Teradata Studio 15.00 is now available for download. Teradata Studio is an administration tool for creating and administering database objects. It can be run on multiple operating system platforms, such as Windows, Linux, and Mac OSX. It is built on top of the Eclipse Rich Client Platform (RCP) which allows Teradata Studio to benefit from the many high quality Eclipse features available while focusing on value-add for the Teradata Database.

Exporting data from a Teradata table to an Hive table using the studio (v14.10.01.201310271220) fails silently. Nothing happens since there is a bad parameter called within the tdch command launched.

Hello there,
When creating a new Hadoop profile from TD Studio 14.10.01 nothing happens and I get an Unhandled event loop exception logged in the error log view:

java.lang.NullPointerException

Teradata Studio's Copy Object Wizard allows users to copy objects by simply dragging the object from the Data Source Explorer tree and dropping it into the destination node in the Transfer View tree. Often users have created objects in their test database and wish to copy it to production, or copy objects from production into their test data lab environment. Database objects can be copied within the same database server or to a different database server. You can copy more than one object at a time by selecting multiple objects from the Data Source Explorer and dragging them to the Transfer View tree. Due to the external code location, External Stored Procedures and User Defined Functions can not be copied.

The Copy Object Wizard also allows you to filter out columns or column data when copying tables. You can also copy table data to an existing table, providing a map of source columns to destination columns.

Teradata Studio provides a Smart Loader for Hadoop feature that allows users to transfer data from Teradata to Hadoop, Hadoop to Teradata, and Hadoop to Aster. When transfering between Teradata and Hadoop, the Hadoop Smart Loader uses the Teradata Connector for Hadoop MapReduce Java classes as the underlying technology for data movement.

Teradata provides three Eclipse-based client tools, Teradata Studio, Teradata Studio Express, and Teradata Plug-in for Eclipse. All three products are built from the same code base and provide connectivity to your Teradata Database, but each has a different end user focus.

Teradata Studio Express 14.02 now supports Aster database connectivity. Teradata Studio Express is an information discovery tool for retrieving and displaying data from your Aster database systems. It can be run on multiple operating system platforms, such as Windows, Linux, and Mac OSX.

Teradata Studio is a client based graphical interface used to perform database administration tasks on Teradata and Aster Databases, as well as copying data between Aster, Teradata, and Hadoop Database Systems. Teradata Studio is built on the Eclipse® Rich Client Platform (RCP), taking advantage of the RCP framework for building and deploying native GUI applications. It extends the Eclipse Data Tools Platform (DTP) to enhance Teradata Database access. Teradata Studio can be run on Windows, Linux, and Mac OSX operating systems. The Eclipse platform is designed as an open tools platform but architected so that its components (or a subset of its components) can be used to build RCP applications. This allows Teradata Studio to benefit from the many high quality Eclipse features available while focusing on value-add for Teradata.

With the Studio 15.11 release, a new user interface was introduced in the Administration Perspective. Refer to the article, New Studio Administration User Experience for more information.

In addition to this article, there is a Teradata Studio User Guide document now available on the Teradata Studio Download page.
