Can anyone please help?
I have a source text file look like below char(10), 20K count of records,  but the output got only 8 characters and the last two got cut off (i.e. 12345678).

Hi Everyone,
                    I am new to Teradata forum. Could anyone in forum please help out in deriving an analytical function.
Trying to create a new date column using windowing function which display date of child (SEQ_ORDER (5)) as is and move dates of its first parent (SEQ_ORDER (4)) to all the parent level i.e 3,2,1

My instance shows it is started but it is still taking a long time for the connection to the database

Is there any easy way to find out any DELETES happened on a table or not with out parsing the qrylog table.
Do we have any dbc tables that captures this information.

Hi all,

I have a particular question regarding how the data are stored inside ResUsageSAWT.
When the column TheTime is for example '04:10:00.00' all the data regarding AWTs refers to the interval from 04:00 to 04:10 or refers to the interval 04:10 to 04:20?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Aster is an analytic discovery application that lets you perform exploratory queries across your data regardless if it is structured or not.

Hi all,
there is a requirement of copying all the tables with data from one db (may be dev) to another db ( Test) .
It can be done as below :
a) Utilizing the metadata tables for creating the automated  create table statements  as below :

We have the column defined as below
beg_ts TIMESTAMP(6) WITH TIME ZONE.
The column when updated via BTEQ, MACRO gives the output as below
8/21/2015 23:22:55.320000-07:00 (at local timezone)
when updated via stored procedure gives the output
UTC Time - 8/22/2015 06:22:39.360000+00:00 (at gmt)

This “Teradata Basics” posting describes the current dimensions of parallelism in the Teradata Database, and how they work together.

Hi All,

I am measuring the performance of a query execution in a test environment and i have a following scenario..... This test environment has data volume equivalent to production environment, but its hardware is downsized compared to production environment, i.e., its 40% or 50% of production environment or configuration.

If you've worked with Oracle for years and now find yourself the DBA for a Teradata Data Warehouse, you'll want to get productive as soon as possible.

Today's analytic environments incorporate multiple technologies and systems. Getting value from these systems often requires that they work together to address business needs.

hi.
I want to know how to swap two values in a column in oracle sql table in a single query.
suppose I have a table emp which has a column job.
In job there are values 'CLERK' and 'SALESMAN' and others as well.
I want to swap 'SALESMAN' and 'CLERK'.
I did it with three queries.

Hi Everyone,
We've got a need to create Teradata function (TD 15) which will return date from a table. Date in this table is changed by the other process. This is migration for existing process so it have to work like before.
More detail below:
CREATE MULTISET TABLE par_table (
par VARCHAR(10),
par_date DATE
)

This session explores the new options available for setting hard limits at different levels in the SLES11 priority hierarchy.

I've created a Java Function and imported it in TeraData
But after few thousand executions, the function becomes too slow.
You can find below output from TOP command.
USER       PR   NI VIRT    RES  SHR  S %CPU %MEM    TIME+     COMMAND
tdatuser  23   8  815m  33m 1976 S  200   1.4          1835:21  udfsectsk

Good day!
I've got several databases which contain tables of data; all these databases have the same table names and table structures, only the stored data differs.

As of Teradata Database 14.10.05 and 15.00.03, a simplified approach to determining which workload will support session management and parsing has been adopted  This posting describes this more straightforward approach which will be used starting in these 14.10 and 15.0 releases, and going forward in all future releases.

An earlier posting titled:  “A Closer Look at How to Setup a Parsing-Only Workload”  explains how session and parsing workload assignment takes place prior to this more simplified approach.  If you are on an earlier release, please see that posting from December 2014.

Hi,

I'm trying to do something like below, but its giving me syntax error,
can anyone please tell me what is the issue and how to fix this.

with cte0(ID,int_col1) as(
    select row_number() over (order by (select 1)) AS ID,int_col1 from shuffletest
)
update cte0 set int_col1=ID;

Hi,
ROW_COUNT is returning wrong number.
i have a table having around 100K rows. In a procedure i'm updating all the rows and returning number of rows affected.
I'm using following query to get number of affected rows.

GET DIAGNOSTICS v_Variable_Name = ROW_COUNT;

Hi Guys,
I need some info on looping in Teradata with below requirement. Anny help will be appriciated. Thanks in advance,

This session focuses on statistics enhancements in Teradata Database 14.10, particularly the new threshold functionality, skipping statistics, and downgrade to sampling.

Hi is it possible to use modify user statement in the prepared statement as like below.If it is wrong plz correct it....
PreparedStatement pstmt1 = con.prepareStatement("MODIFY USER '"+username+"' AS release password lock;");

Hi,

I'm logged in with dbc user.
I'm ALTERing a table to add Foreign Key Constraint with Following statement
ALTER TABLE testdb.Master2 ADD CONSTRAINT fk_Master1 FOREIGN KEY (Master1ID) REFERENCES testdb.Master1(Master1ID);
its works fine.
But when i write this in a procedure

Hi ,
What is teradata error 5533 about and how to resolve the problem .
Thanks,

Is it possible to move data from between different DBC's on teradata ?

I have a database 'A', which contains a table 'B' on DBC "C"

Can i  move the table 'B' in to DBC "D" ??

Hi,

I want to Update a table. But before that i want disable foreign key\check Constraint\Unique Key on some tables.
After update, i want to enable those disables constraint again.

Can you please tell me how can i do that.

Statistical information is vital for the optimizer when it builds query plans. But collecting statistics can involve time and resources. By understanding and combining several different statistics gathering techniques, users of Teradata can find the correct balance between good query plans and the time required to ensure adequate statistical information is always available.

This recently-updated compilation of statistics collection recommendations are intended for sites that are on any of the Teradata Database 14.10, 15.0, or 15.10 software release levels. Some of these recommendations apply to releases earlier than Teradata Database 14.10 and some rely on new features available starting in Teradata Database 14.10.  Statistics collection functionality in the Teradata Database works the same in 14.10, 15.0 and 15.10 releases.

For greater detail on collecting statistics for Teradata Database 14.10, see the orange book titled:  Teradata Database 14.10 Statistics Enhancements by Rama Krishna Korlapati.

Can any one answer my Question...How can we connect (Different Oracle, Teradata) multiple database servers to join the tables from both DB's

Hi. I am receiving the above error when trying to perform a password change via a third party password reset tool. We are using Windows Server 2012 R2 and the password software requires the 32 bit version of the ODBC driver. We are using 15. We have confirmed that the ODBC connection is working.

Hi
In Viewpoint Query-Monitor, for a particular session we can check the cpu skew and also the highest and average cpu.
If I want to check this from database, then which table and column shall I refer, is it DBQLogTbl or AMPUsageV view or anything else?

Thanks

Hi Forum,

I have a table created as SET table using IDENTITY column as UPI and it has data in it.

Now, the user wants us to change it to MULTISET, but, as the PI is on Identity column how can I do this?

Hi Dieter / All

I would like to know one thing.

There is one table T. A view V is created with LOCKING ROW FOR ACCESS.

Now, 3 different users (in 3 different sessions) are trying in parallel to INSERT using V (view).

Hi All

If a table is defined as MLPPI the constraint can be checked either from DBC.PartitioningConstraintsV or from DBC.IndexConstraintsV.

There the ConstraintText feild holds the explanation in a certain format such as

/* nn bb cc */ partition_expression_i /* i  d+a */

Where,

If I told you there was a way you might be able to speed up parsing time for your queries, would you be interested?

In Teradata Database 14.10.02 there is a new capability that allows you to expedite express requests, and I’d like to explain how that works, describe when it can help you, and make some suggestions about how you can use it to get the best performance you can from parsing when the system is under stress.  But first a little background.

Hi
I need to convert these statments from using  AT TIMEZONE to FROM_GMT2.  Help is very much appreciated
c_timestamp is a column of timestamp(0) type
TO_CHAR(CAST(CAST(c_timestamp AT TIME ZONE 'America Mountain' AS VARCHAR(19)) AS TIMESTAMP(0)),'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS') AS C_TIMESTAMP_MDT

Hi all,
As per the some of the requirements , we have to calculate the Daily increase in Volume (bytes) for a database (it includes some 100 + tables) for the past 30 days.

The SLES 11 priority scheduler implements priorities and assigns resources to workloads based on a tree structure.   The priority administrator defines workloads in Viewpoint Workload Designer and places the workloads on one of several different available levels in this hierarchy. On some levels the admin assigns an allocation percent to the workloads, on other levels not.

How does the administrator influence who gets what?  How does tier level and the presence of other workloads are on the same tier impact what resources are actually allocated?  What happens when some workloads are idle and others are not?

This posting gives you a simple explanation of how resources are shared in SLES 11 priority scheduler and what happens when one or more workloads are unable to consume what they have been allocated.

We are using the below query to modify the transaction ID on the table and this transaction ID is primary index on the table through ETL job.

Hi

I am using Teradata Parallel Transporter v13.10. I have few questions in this regard.

1. In MLOAD LAYOUT we can define .FILLER, which will not be sent to database. Can we define anything similar in TPT UPDATE also?

2. Running the following DDL step.

Admin,

Please provide the link for Windows version of teradata express. I see that it is discontinued for some reason, but some of us want to try and learn and VT option may or may not be available for all? Thank you

Most Teradata systems support different processing windows, each which has a somewhat different set of business priorities.  From 8 AM to 12 noon the most important work may be the Dashboard application queries.  But from 12 noon to 6 PM it could be the ad hoc business users.   At night maybe it’s the batch loads and reporting.   Planned Environments function within the TASM state matrix to support the ability to automatically manage changes to workload management setup during those different windows of time.

Hi,
In my server, we are getting spool space issue, If we delete  few inactive old USERS, Will it resolve the spool space issue?
